Hiking has been a relatively recent addition to the activities available in Pokhara, having started just three decades ago. One of the popular hiking destinations in the area is Kahun Danda, a picturesque hill located to the north of Pokhara. It is accessible via a hike of around two and a half hours from the downtown area of Mahendrapul. Exploring the village on foot is not only the best way to experience the natural beauty of the mountainous regions in Pokhara, but also a way to immerse oneself in the rich cultural diversity of the area. Typically, this hiking route is a one-day excursion, but if you want to spend more time with the villagers and gain insights into their way of life, Plan Holidays can arrange for a 2-day trip.
Kahun Danda is situated at an altitude of 1444 meters (4740 feet) and is lower than Sarangkot. The hiking trail commences just after crossing the newly constructed bridge at Seti Powerhouse (Narayanthan) and passes by the army barracks at Phulbari before gradually ascending the slope. The summit of Kahun Danda offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Annapurna mountain range as well as the expansive Pokhara valley
On Day 01 of this trekking adventure, a professional guide from Real Adventure will meet you in the lobby of your hotel and drive you by hired tourist car. After enjoying breakfast, you will travel for approximately half an hour towards Phulbari Army Barrack via Mahendrapul. Upon crossing the Army Barrack, you will reach the base of Kahun village, where your trekking journey will begin.
You will start your trek uphill, following a winding road that passes through several settlements. The charming village, perched on the hillside, is adorned with colorful tin roofs, fertile farming terraces, stone taps, and ponds. As you ascend, you will be thrilled by the magnificent view of the northern side of Fewa Lake, which reflects the towering Mt. Fishtail and the stunning Annapurna range, basking in the morning sunlight.
After walking for some time, you will arrive at Kahun View Tower, located at the bottom of the forest. Here, you can savor an aerial view of the Pokhara valley and the mountain ranges. You can stop for lunch at a local restaurant before embarking on a forest and village walk. Take in the colorful surroundings, filled with blooming rhododendron flowers, and capture the beautiful landscapes in photos.
Later, you will trek down to Phulbari and return to your hotel in Pokhara by car. This hike is an excellent option for those who wish to enjoy Nepal’s natural beauty and experience the local culture within a short time.
